Who is an ideal owner for a Spaniel?

The ideal owner for a spaniel dog breed is:

  • Active – Spaniels are very active dogs (for example springer and cocker spaniels) and suit owners that have an active lifestyle and are happy going on lots of walks (at least an hour a day) or spending time outdoors where spaniels are happiest!
  • Patient – Spaniels are super smart and and very receptive to training but can be needy dogs who suffer from seperation anxiety when their owners are out.
  • Available – Linked to above they are a better fit for owners are available in the day / work from home.
  • Families – Spaniels are very sociable dogs and are generally good with children and others pets with the right training and socialisation from a young age.

what is an ideal home for a spaniEL Dog?

Given how active spaniel dogs are it is recommended that any home includes:

  • Outdoor Space – enough outdoor space for them to run around. It is possible to have a spaniel in a flat but ideally they’d have that space for sniffing (a favourite past time for spaniels) and when they get that burst of energy.
  • Dedicated space for the dog – dog like to have dedicated area to call their own for their bed / crate where they can sleep at night or retreat to for a nap / some peaceful time!

Cost of owing a spaniel dog

  • Food – food costs vary between wet and dry foods but can add another £45 per month depending on the quality of the food purchased.
  • Other Expenses – These can include accessories (dog bowls, treats, bones etc) or on-going medication.
