Spaniel dogs are one of the most intelligent, loving and active dog breeds (also known as a gun dog breed). Spaniels are typically a small to medium size breed overall. Below is an overview of the Smaller Spaniel Dog Breeds. Popular in the UK and US some owners prefer smaller pets for a variety of reasons:
- Intelligent and trainable – all spaniel dogs are quick learners and eager to please and respond well to training (particularly positive reinforcement – check out our latest spaniel training tips).
- Affectionate and loyal – some owners like smaller spaniel breeds some of which are lap dogs who will sit close or on their owners! A defining trait of spaniels is their affectionate nature often being selected as they are good with families with children.
- Great for smaller living space – smaller breeds just take up less space if you’re not up for a great dane they are perfect!
- Active – even smaller spaniels are active and still need daily / regular walks (we recommend minimum of an hour) but not as much as the larger spaniel breeds (Springers Spaniels for example).
